csbB: cytoplasmic undecaprenol-N-acetylglucosamine glycosyltransferase [1]

CsbB is a part of the glycosylation pathway of extracellular lipoteichoic acid modifications

• In the LTA glycosylation pathway, CsbB transfers NAG to an undecaprenol carrier in the cytoplasm which traffics it to the inner leaflet of the cell membrane. GtcA flips it to the outer leaflet where YfhO can transfer NAG to the 2-OH of the extracellular poly-glycerophosphate LTA.

• Under high salt conditions, the alternate sigma factor SigB activates LTA glycosylation and represses LTA D-alanylation.
