scnB (scb) : staphylococcal complement C3 convertase inhibitor SCIN-B [1]
• A crystal structure is available : 3T49
Complement inhibitor SCIN-B is an immune factor found in the core staphylococcal genome and a contributor to human pathogenic potential. SCIN-B specifically inhibits C3 convertase, preventing complement cascade activation. Although both prophage-encoded SCIN-A and core genome-encoded SCIN-B can inhibit C3 convertase, SCIN-A appears to provide a greater contribution to virulence, potentially due to its more robust (and inducible) expression and more specific C3 convertase binding.
