yddJ : ICE6013 probable mating pair exclusion lipoprotein YddJ [1]
Some staphylococci have acquired a Type IV secretion system encoded on an integrative conjugative element (ICE6013), which encodes a minimal conjugative transfer function that may have adapted to double as a small molecule translocation system. These strains are capable of preventing neighboring bacteria from donating additional copies of ICE6013 by disrupting mating pair channels (translocons). In ICEBs1, DUF4467 lipoprotein YddJ can bind to ICEBs1 membrane translocon extended channel proteins and disrupt channel formation at the recipient end, preventing YddJ-containing cells from becoming recipients. The protein from ICE6013 shares 40% similarity to ICEBs1 YddJ, the DUF4467 domain, a similar gene sequence (virB6→virB1→ietR→yddJ) and (presumably) a mating pair exclusion function.
