cdd : cytidine deaminase [1]

Staphylococcus aureus is able to deaminate exogenous or excess cytidine/deoxycytidine to generate uridine/deoxyuridine using cytidine deaminase. This property can be used to distinguish Staphylococcus aureus from other staphylococci and is particularly useful in identifying "false negatives" due to clfA or coa deficient Staphylococcus aureus.
