• this version of ArgR is part of the core staphylococcal genome and is found in all strains. It is part of the arginine deiminase pathway that is actively transcribed only during aerobic growth. The "c" after "argR" is to differentiate this version from the "a" version found in the Arginine Catabolic Metabolic Element (ACME) that sometimes accompanies the SCCmec element in MRSA, particularly the USA300 clade.
