Serogroup A prophage capsids consist of a major capsid-scaffolding fusion protein that requires cleavage to generate mature capsids. Head maturation protease removes the serogroup A mcp δ domain by proteolytic cleavage. This crotonase-like paralogue specifically cleaves serogroup A mcp between lysine-128 and leucine-129.
