lcpC : capsular polysaccharide:peptidoglycan ligase C [1]

LCP ligases facilitate the attachment of capsular polysaccharides and wall teichoic acids to extracellular peptidoglycan. Staphylococcus aureus produces three LCP ligases and loss of even one paralogue can reduce pathogenicity by altering adhesion and resistance to cell wall-active antimicrobial agents. Although the functional redundancy and substrate overlap is significant, LcpC is the primary LCP ligase responsible for attachment of capsule polysaccharides to peptidoglycan.
