This is the integrase for prophage ΦFPR2. It is a site-specific class Sa2int integrase that recognizes the 29-bp attB sequence AAATAAACATATCGTCATAATGTGATGGT and catalyzes either integration or excision of a prophage, typically between two copies of the attB sequence. The classical attB sequence for Sa2int prophage is located within a hypothetical lipoprotein found immediately downstream of the srrB staphylococcal respiratory response sensor histidine kinase. However, the integrase can accommodate an impressive number of mismatches and can integrate in several other locations such as within lacG (GTATTCCAATCACATCATAACATGATGGT), sea (CATTTTGTTCATCATCATTATAATATTTA) or elsewhere, albeit at lower efficiency. Some S. aureus strains will have two similar Sa2int prophage at both lacG and srrB integration sites. Sa2int prophage frequently carry coding sequences for the lukFPV lukSPV Panton-Valentine leukocidins.
