dusB2 : tRNA-dihydrouridine synthase [1]
Certain staphylococcal tRNA sequences require reduction of uridine (U) nucleobases to dihydrouridines (D) to impart more flexibility and reduced aromatic stacking interactions. DusB2 is able to reduce uridines at positions D17, D20 and/or D20a, as appropriate. A clear listing of which tRNAs require such modifications in staphylococci is not available, although it is available for Bacillus and many staphylococcal tRNAs are the same sequence as their Bacillus orthologues. Some staphylococci also contain a partial duplication of dusB2 which is not thought to be functional.
