cch1 : cassette chromosome self-loading replicative helicase [1]

Contrary to initial assessment, staphylococcal cassette chromosomes are replicative following excision. The strategy employed by Cch1 consists of a minimal four-protein replicative core of ssbmec-cch1-ccrA-ccrB. In this schema, cch1 functions as a self-loading helicase that assembles as a pair of hexamers and unwinds the dsDNA in a 3'→5' orientation with ssbmec protecting the unwound ssDNA and preventing re-annealing.
