ypfP (ugtP) : diacylglycerol glucosyltransferase [1]

Formation of diglucosyl-diacylglycerol on the inner leaflet of the cell membrane by diacylglycerol glucosyltransferase is the first committed step in teichoic acid synthesis. YpfP catalyzes the iterative, processive transfer of glucose from two equivalents of cytosolic UDP-glucose onto a membrane-bound diacylglycerol anchor, providing the platform upon which lipoteichoic acids will eventually be built. This activity is regulated by the membrane protein-processing metalloprotease FtsH which, when activated, degrades YpfP, halting lipoteichoic acid biosynthesis until new YpfP enzyme can be synthesized. Its activity can also be modulated allosterically by CozEa and CozEb proteins although they have a more dramatic role on the activity of the subsequent enzyme in the pathway, diglucosyl-diacylglycerol flippase.
